09/19/20204 with Carol Moldaw
Three-dimensional poems which evoke sculptural images invite you to view Carol Moldaw’s poetry from every angle and form the heart of her seventh collection, Go Figure. Carol’s eyes and ears are finely tuned to nature and even the mundane comes alive under her exquisite mastery and unbridled love of words, described as “lyric intensity” by a noted literary critic. How does she write with such surgical precision that at once hits the core and soothes the membranes of ruptured skin at the same time? A conversation that inspires, sows seeds, and a book to keep close. Carol will read from Go Figure at Collected Works this Sunday afternoon September 22nd at 4:30. More at carolmoldaw.com

10/24/2024 Halloween Special with Judith Fein and Paul Ross
It’s always fun and fascinating when I’m joined in the KSFR studios by travel journalists, cultural adventurers and delightful entertainers, Judith Fein and Paul Ross for my annual Halloween themed show. Today, we mix it up with two of their best-selling books, How to Communicate with The Dead and Slow Travel New Mexico. Judie and Paul take death away from the morbid and fearful to celebrate the lives of loved ones as many cultures have done for millennia, here and around the world. Plus, we’re joined by “ghost writer” PJ with a spine-tingling tale written especially for today’s show! You can meet Judie and Paul in person on Sunday, November 3rd at 1:00 pm at Los Luceros, the beautiful historic site 10 miles north of Espanola. Arrive early for a mini balloon fiesta. Also, PJ will be performing Saturday, November 16th, 11:00 am at Hotel Albuquerque. In December, find Judie and Paul in Los Alamos, Las Vegas (NM) and at Santa Fe’s Southside Library. Full details of all appearances, events, and of course books, at their website www.globaladventure.org

10/17/2024 with Barrett Klein
Don’t hesitate to press “Listen” for an absolutely fascinating dive into the world of bugs with renowned entomologist Barrett Klein. I was so caught up in his engaging, encyclopedic knowledge during this interview that I couldn’t wait to go back outside and dig, watch for and delight in the thousands of species we humans share our planet with in the ground, on flowers, and in the air. The Insect Epiphany: How Our Six-Legged Allies Shape Human Culture is a treasure trove filled with gorgeous photographs and one of those rare dip-into-any-page-anytime books and find a story and an answer about everything insects do for us and our planet. Without them the world would be far less beautiful, most food would cease to grow, and even music, medicine and color would be at risk. Find Barrett Klein at www.pupating.org

08/29/2024 with Robert Jensen
Do you ever wonder how to speak authentically to your friends, acquaintances and colleagues or do you even question that your words may not really be what you’re thinking and feeling deep down ? Robert W. Jensen, Professor Emeritus in the School of Journalism and Media at UT, Austin, poses these and many provocative questions and ideas in his latest book, It’s Debatable: Talking Authentically about Many Tricky Topics. While not necessarily a book about politics, Professor Jensen takes the wide view that almost everything is political and our personal thoughts, conversations, decisions and actions, when in congruence, can sow seeds and form a vital thread of influence. Even if only to influence and clarify our own thinking and nudge us out of denial. And because of the title of his book and the fact that we’re in such a head-butting political time I couldn’t help asking Bob how he would advise both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump if he was on their debate advisory teams! robertwjensen.org

08/22/2024 with Minrose Gwin
Journey down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast of the turbulent 1950s with award-winning author Minrose Gwin and her unforgettable characters with enchanting names like Memory Feather. Minrose Gwin has a deft and rich, descriptive style to her prose and composes a picture for us so vivid that might have us swatting (imagined) mosquitos as we read Beautiful Dreamers in our air conditioned living rooms. A fabulous storyteller from Albuquerque to add to our reading list and meet at Books in The Bosque on Sunday, September 8th at 2:00 pm minrosegwin.com
