  • Nick and Trevor Marcotte have made movies since they were kids — with their first serious effort being the 2012 short western, 'The Weight'. They're currently developing a retro vampire film called 'Sunset'. Their short proof of concept, 'A Scene from Sunset', will premiere at AFMX in Albuquerque this fall. 'Sunset' is a love letter to 80s vampire films (think The Lost Boys and Fright Night) and is about the dangers we face in growing up. It's a coming-of-age horror/comedy that's dipped in green chile, as the film is set in New Mexico. The project will be written and directed by the Marcotte Brothers. Nick Marcotte is a writer and producer. He's written the screenplays for 'The Weight' and 'A Scene from Sunset', and recently acted in short films 'Never' and 'Daredevil: Scales of Justice'.Trevor Marcotte is a director and producer. He directed 'The Weight', 'A Scene from Sunset', and works as a camera operator for unscripted television. He's also shadowed Academy Award-winning director Cameron Crowe.

  • Tarrie Burnett, LMSWTarrie brings more than 19 years of nonprofit policy and program experience with a background in community social work. She graduated from the University of Boulder with an undergraduate degree in Women’s Studies and the University of Denver with a Master’s in Social Work, focused on program implementation and design for international social work and a specialization in trauma. Currently serving as the executive director for Tomorrow’s Women, a decidedly feminist organization that is empowering the next generation of social justice and peace activists in Israel and Palestine through leadership, compassionate listening, and creative arts. Previously, she developed nationally recognized mental health and wellness, micro-financing, and sustainable farming initiatives for refugee families working with Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains. Tarrie brings experience in community development, financing, and teaching as well as an interest in local, national, and international politics. She currently volunteers with the New Mexico Refugee Educational Bridge Project, supporting young women from Afghanistan to pursue secondary and higher education in the United States, and is a speaker on refugee issues for Global Santa Fe.

  • Petru Cotarcea, ViolinistPetru Cotarcea is a virtuoso violinist and the founder of Lycaeum Music, a company that connects professional music educators with students. This fully integrated online platform offers flexible home lessons, online lessons, courses, workshops, and competitions for students to build a musical community. Cotarcea also built a MusicOnWheels bus, a refurbished musical double decker bus that offers free music lessons to students who normally can't afford it. Lycaeum Music has served over 9,000 children since its founding in 2017. Joe Pavlo, DirectorJoe Pavlo grew up in Minnesota and studied fine art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His parallel career in visual effects spans more than 120 projects and has earned him two Emmy Awards and a BAFTA nomination. Joe brings a passion for storytelling and a fascination with the intersection of technology and art to all his work as a filmmaker.

The film delves into the complex issue of cultural appropriation, showcasing Gordon's ability to tackle relevant social themes through the medium of storytelling. Building on the success of his short film, Gordon has recently made significant strides by writing and collaborating on multiple feature-length screenplays, "Unwritten", "Iniquitous" and "Retreat of the Heart". These projects demonstrate Gordon's versatility as a writer and his commitment to bringing diverse narratives to the screen. With a keen eye for crafting compelling stories and a willingness to explore challenging subjects, Levi Gordon is emerging as a promising talent in the film industry.   • Pam Block is Professor of Anthropology at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. Her research interests include disability culture, cultural perceptions of disability, and the intersections of disability, sexuality, gender, race, ethnicity, and social status. She studies disability experience on individual, organizational and community levels, with past funded research involving socio-environmental barriers, empowerment/capacity-building, and health promotion. She is particularly interested in movements for disability liberation (justice and rights) and disability oppression (eugenics, sterilization, mass-incarceration and killing) in Brazil, the United States and Canada.Allison C. Carey is a professor of sociology, Chair of the Department of Sociology & Anthropology, and director of the MS in Organizational Development and Leadership at Shippensburg University. Her research focuses on the social history of and civil rights for people with intellectual disabilities and disability activism. She is author of On the Margins of Citizenship: Intellectual Disability and Civil Rights in 20th Century America (2009), Disability and the Sociological Imagination (2022), and co-author of Allies and Obstacles: Disability Activism and Parents of Children with Disabilities. Richard K. Scotch is Professor of Sociology and Public Policy at the University of Texas at Dallas. His research focuses on social policy and social movements related to disability, health, and education. His current projects include an edited volume of narratives by activist parents of children with disabilities, interviews with political candidates with disabilities, and a study of social and community barriers experienced by burn injury survivors.

Sipler's passion for the film industry led her to take on critical roles in prominent organizations. In 2020, Sipler joined AFMX as its Volunteer Coordinator, then advanced to its Director of Operations, navigating projects from drive-in movies, events, and virtual and live festivals. As the Volunteer and Logistics Director for the Seattle Film Summit, she played a pivotal role in revamping operations, resulting in a staggering reach of over 40,000 targeted participants for festival operations and doubling attendance from each prior year. Behind the scenes, Sipler continues to work as a Screenwriter, Assistant Director, Producer and Director. She thrives in the collaborative energy of film sets, leaving impactful legacies like the viral shorts "Period,” with over 7 million views, and “Jameson,” with over 4 million views. Sipler and her writing partner were two of the first ten writers out of 200 entries admitted into the Inaugural New Mexico Film Office New Voices program, presented by Stowe Story Labs in 2022. Her first screenplay, “Autumn Waltz,” won numerous awards and was distributed by Amazon Prime. Sipler attended Albuquerque High School and received her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico.
