The Language of Place is a group exhibition featuring mixed media painting by Heidi Brandow (Diné & Kānaka Maoli); photography by Shaarbek Amankul (Indigenous Kyrgyz); beadwork and photography by Thomas Jones (Ho-Chunk); Indigenous Kyrgyzstani textiles designed by Amankul and Brandow and made by Kyrgyzstani artisans; and a pair of moccasins handmade by Clementine Bordeaux (Sičáŋǧu Lakótapi [Rosebud Sioux Tribe]). Co-curated by Amankul and Brandow, this exhibition examines how land, history, and cultural knowledge inform and shape the creative processes of four artists whose practices are intricately embedded in their relationships with land and environment.
Join us for an Immersive 3-day artmaking workshop co-facilitated by Isabel Bowser and Arulu Gallagher at RELAY Santa Fe. In this multidisciplinary process, we will use mask making and dance to explore our personal mythologies and inner worlds. Isa will guide us through dance practices to access creativity and imagination, enlivening the beings we will be depicting in our masks. Arulu will teach us how to design and construct our own paper mache masks in a fun and communal making space. We are excited to see you there!
All artistic skill levels are welcome! Prior painting & sculpting experience helpful but not required.

Conference theme for 2025: Creativity & Embodiment: Ancient, Alternative, and Emerging Pathways
Expressive arts and body-centered practices have provided pathways to transformational healing for individuals, families and communities from the dawn of humanity, with new and innovative approaches emerging throughout history. This year’s Transformation & Healing Conference is dedicated to exploring how ancient wisdom traditions, creative expressions, and somatic arts provide alternatives to conventional modern medical models, and contribute to emergent theories and models that support health and wellbeing.
