Nativescape welcomes Pulitzer Prize winning Santa Fe writer, N. Scott Momaday (Kiowa). N. Scott Momaday was born in Lawton, Oklahoma and is an internationally renowned Kiowa poet, novelist, artist, teacher, and storyteller whose works celebrate and preserve Native American heritage. He is among the greatest contemporary writers of our time. He is often credited with sparking the Native American Renaissance with his first novel, House Made of Dawn, which won the Pulitzer Prize. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Academy of American Poets Prize, the National Medal of Arts, the Ken Burns American Heritage Prize, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation's Richard C. Holbrooke Distinguished Achievement Award, Anisfield-Wolf Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2021 Frost Medal for distinguished lifetime achievement in poetry. A longtime professor of English and American literature, Momaday earned his PhD from Stanford University and retired as Regents Professor at the University of Arizona. He lives in New Mexico. His latest collection, DREAM DRAWINGS Configurations of a Timeless Kind, is a breathtaking homage to the American West which honors longstanding Native American oral traditions and reminds modern readers of our increasingly tenuous connection to land, place, and nature. At once a celebration of language, imagination, and the human spirit, DREAM DRAWINGS includes both prose poems and original paintings that evoke New Mexico and Momaday’s Kiowa heritage. It has been said this book, is poignant, inspired, and timeless, this is a collection that will nourish the soul.
