In February, New Mexico U-S Senator Tom Udall and California Congressman Alan Lowenthal introduced the first-ever comprehensive bill in Congress to tackle the plastic waste crisis.
The Democrats’ bill is titled “the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act.” On Wednesday Udall testified on the measure before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works as part of an oversight hearing on the challenges facing the nation’s recycling infrastructure.
