Unit B is thrilled to welcome Arugakki, the creative duo of percussionist Kris Bergstrom and dancer, Minh Nguyen. Their newest composition, Tricky Left, is a powerfully emotional performance combining original music and choreography, featuring taiko (Japanese drums), synthesizers, percussion and home-made instruments enmeshed with movement. Tricky Left is performance art that explores the emotional boundaries of traditional taiko and dance.

Formed in 2020 by contemporary dancer, Minh Nguyen, and internationally-recognized taiko artist, Kristofer Bergstrom, Arugakki debuted in San Francisco with the critically-acclaimed theater production, Harbor , and has gone on to become one of the taiko world's most exciting ensembles. A preview of "Tricky Left" presented at the 2025 North American Taiko Conference was acclaimed as one of the most original and emotional taiko performances of the last decade.

Designed specifically for intimate venues, Tricky Left pushes dynamic boundaries, from whisper-quiet brushes on drums to heart-pounding, full-body taiko. Music-lovers will discover inventive instruments, original uses of rhythm, and never-before-seen drumming techniques.

For dance-lovers, Arugakki offers a refreshingly original choreography, at times propelled by the music, and at other times indistinguishable from it.

Arugakki is currently on tour, presenting Tricky Left through 30 states and Canadian provinces. We are thrilled to be able to present them at Unit B.
