The Newcomers Project provided a space for immigrant students from Mexico and South America to find community through filmmaking. In this program, students embarked on the process of making their own short films and were encouraged to explore different methods for self expression. These methods ranged from narration, poetry, illustration, photography, and even stop-motion animation. Students shared their stories in a collaborative, supportive environment, and gained real-world filmmaking skills such as editing on industry standard software and lighting an interview set-up. This class was taught entirely in Spanish and students received a stipend upon completion of the program.
