Behind the Scenes: Tales from a Hollywood Insider
Behind the Scenes: Tales from a Hollywood Insider
What’s it really like in Tinsel Town? What’s involved in making films in the industry’s epicenter? At 7 pm on June 9, at Vista Grande Public Library you have the chance to hear first-hand from Hollywood insider Paul Lazarus. Bring your questions to this intimate speaking event, limited to an audience of 75! Tickets are available for sale at the Vista Grande Library and all proceeds benefit the library, an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 serving Southeastern Santa Fe County since 2001.
Lazarus’s long career in media is worthy of a feature film itself. A graduate of Williams College and Yale Law School, Lazarus practiced intellectual property law in New York City before moving to Hollywood where he became Woody Allen’s talent agent, selling Allen’s first film, the 1969 hit “Take the Money and Run.” Lazarus eventually headed up production for four Hollywood studios.
He produced seven feature films including “Westworld” and “Capricorn One” and was appointed chief of production for HBO’s film division. Lazarus went on to establish an educational film company for Psychology Today magazine and to author numerous screenplays and books including The Film Producer: A Handbook for Producing. He served as film commissioner for New Mexico under Governor Toney Anaya before leaving New Mexico to chair the Film Department at the University of Miami. Now back in New Mexico fulltime, Lazarus and his wife, Judy, reside in Santa Fe.
