Art Quilt and Surface Design Group of the Northern New Mexico Quilt Guild (NNMQG), Art Exhibit,
In July, the Art Quilt and Surface Design Group of the Northern New Mexico Quilt Guild (NNMQG) takes the 2-D and 3-D exhibit spaces. Art quilting has become very popular in the United States as well as internationally. While the technique is variable, artists always use fabric, sewing, and a three-layer system of joining the front, center, and back. These quilts are for hanging on a wall as art, but quilts can also be 3-D. Surface design refers to changing the fabric by dyeing, printing, or otherwise coloring it (paint, special pencils, or markers). The altered fabric is then used in an art quilt or simply used as a wall hanging.
The 30-member group has been in existence for nearly ten years, meeting regularly to sew together. They have exhibited at the Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos and at the Santa Fe Quilt Fiesta, held by the Guild biannually.
A public reception for the artists will be held July 6, from 1-3 pm at the library, at 14 Avenida Torreon, in Eldorado.
