Unique New Mexico Disease Strikes Colonist Descendants

A rare genetic mutation is at the root of a mysterious illness that attacks only descendants of a seventeenth century family of settlers in what is now New Mexico.  The ailment, a uniquely New Mexican disease, is often overlooked by physicians, while insurance companies balk at paying for treatment.
