Nativescape welcomes rocker Debora Iyall (Cowlitz), of the band Romeo Void, for a fun, personal discussion of Debora's post-punk influences and her own cultural impact as a songwriter and performer. Listen as they delve into her career in education and her new chapter of life in New Mexico. Many will remember from her work from the American post punk band Romeo Void. They rose to fame with their epic 1981 hit 'Never Say Never' and 1984's 'A Girl In Trouble (is a temporary thing). Never Say Never, which were both favorites and on heavy rotation in the early days of MTV, they also performed on American Bandstand. Never Say Never was featured in the 1984 film Reckless, with Adain Quinn and Daryl Hannah, In 2004, in the film Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaugh and in the 2013, The Wolf of Wall Street staring Leonardo Dicaprio. The song is also featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. After Romeo Void dissolved in 1985. Iyall released her first solo recording, 'Strange Language'. She lived in San Francisco for over 30 years, very was active in the Native American Bay community, serving on the board of the San Francisco Native American Cultural Center and the Bay Area National Association of Recording Artists. She became a visual artist and worked as an art teacher in Coachella Valley, CA. Working as an artist in residence, and worked with underserved youth working with Boys and Girls Clubs, Community Day Schools, juvenile detention centers, after-school programs and many Title 1 schools across the two counties in California. She also ran a printmaking program for Native Americans and South of Market community at SOMArts. Debora recently retired and recently moved to New Mexico.
