Barry C. Kane
Mr. Kane is patent, trademark and copyright attorney. For more than 34 he has been promoting the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited time the exclusive rights of authors and inventors to their respective writings and discoveries.
Mr. Kane is the principle and managing member of Kane & Co., PLC, with offices in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was the chair of the intellectual property section at the law firm of Miller Johnson Snell & Cummiskey in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Previously Mr. Kane was a senior attorney with the firm of Price Heneveld Cooper DeWitt and Litton, also in Michigan. Prior to moving to Michigan, Mr. Kane was in-house counsel for Litton Industries in Houston, Texas. Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Kane was a geophysicist for Gulf Oil.
Mr. Kane is a SCAO Certified Facilitative Mediator for the U.S. District Courts as well as with the American Intellectual Property Law Association and International Trademark Association. Mr. Kane is admitted to practice and argued before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is a licensed Member in Good Standing with the Bar Associations of Michigan and New Mexico. Mr. Kane has been given an AV-Rating by his peers signifying the highest level of professional excellence within his profession.
Mr. Kane grew up in Colorado. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in geology from the University of Northern Colorado. He received his Master’s Degree in geophysics from the University of Florida. He earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from South Texas College of Law.
Mr. Kane was an associate editor of the South Texas Law Review. He is a published author and inventor. His has been a contributing editor of the publication, entitled "State Trademark and Unfair Competition," published by the International Trademark Association. He was also a contributing author in the American Intellectual Property Law Association Litigation Subcommittee Report on the State of Trademark/Trade Dress Law in the Sixth Circuit. His works have also been published by the South Texas Law Review.
Mr. Kane has been a speaker before the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the International Trademark Association. He has also spoken to other professional associations including the American Chartered Certified Accountants; the American Petroleum Institute, the Association of Horizontal Drillers, and the Oil & Gas Producers.
Mr. Kane continues to practice law and manage the business of his firm. He became a permanent resident of Santa Fe in 2013.
